WHO WE ARE
Ding is the global leader in cross-border value transfer. Since 2006, we’ve moved more than $6BN across borders — putting money directly into the hands of diaspora communities so they can support the families they left behind. Today, we operate in 160+ countries, partner with 600+ mobile operators, and serve some of the world’s most underserved markets with technology that is fast, reliable and genuinely life-changing.
We’re headquartered in Dublin and built by a team of 200+ people spread across the globe — engineers, operators and product thinkers who believe that moving value across borders should be as simple as sending a message.
We move fast, build with purpose, and hold ourselves to four values:
- We’re Here to Make a Difference
- We are Thinkers, Linkers & Doers
- We Win Together
- We Imagine Boldly & Build Fast
THE ROLE
JOB TITLE: Android Lead
LOCATION: Dublin, Ireland (Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office)
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Permanent, full time.
SALARY RANGE: Up to €90,000 base salary plus a 10% annual bonus
As Android Lead, you will own the technical direction, quality, and delivery of the Ding Android application — a product used by millions of customers worldwide to stay connected with the people who matter most. You will lead a team of Android engineers, set the engineering standard for the platform, and partner closely with our iOS, Web, Backend, QA, and Product teams to ship features that are fast, reliable, and secure.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will write code, review code, design architecture, and shape the technical roadmap — while also growing the engineers around you. You will be accountable for the health of the codebase, the productivity of the team, and the performance of the app in production.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead the Android engineering team — setting technical direction, defining architectural standards, and owning delivery across the Android roadmap.
- Write production Kotlin code and build UI in Jetpack Compose; remain hands-on in the codebase and lead by example in code reviews.
- Own and evolve the CI/CD pipeline in GitHub Actions — builds, signing, automated testing, distribution to internal tracks and production, and release automation.
- Drive a healthy testing culture across the team — unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing — ensuring meaningful coverage and reliable release confidence.
- Actively manage and reduce technical debt — track it, prioritise it against feature work, and make the case for it with stakeholders.
- Manage the performance and growth of engineers at all levels (junior through senior) — running 1:1s, setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback, and supporting career progression.
- Partner with Product, Design, QA, and Backend to scope, plan, and deliver features end to end.
- Own Android app performance, crash-free rates, startup time, and Play Store quality — instrumenting what matters and acting on the data.
- Recruit, interview, and onboard Android engineers as the team grows.
- Stay current on the Android ecosystem and bring relevant changes (Compose updates, Kotlin language features, AGP, target SDK requirements, Play Store policy) into the team's practice.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 3+ years in an Android lead / engineering management role, with a track record of shipping consumer-facing Android apps at scale.
- Kotlin is a must — deep, idiomatic command of the language including coroutines, flows, and modern Kotlin patterns.
- Jetpack Compose is a must — production experience building and maintaining Compose-based UI, including state management, navigation, and performance tuning.
- Strong experience with CI/CD in GitHub Actions — building, signing, testing, and releasing Android apps through automated pipelines.
- Demonstrable experience managing and reducing technical debt in a long-lived codebase.
- Strong experience with unit testing and end-to-end testing on Android (JUnit, MockK/Mockito, Espresso, Compose UI testing, or equivalent).
- Proven experience managing the performance of engineers at all levels — setting goals, giving feedback, handling underperformance, and developing senior talent.
- Strong understanding of Android architecture patterns (MVVM/MVI, clean architecture, modularisation) and dependency injection (Hilt/Koin).
- Comfortable making pragmatic trade-offs between delivery speed, code quality, and long-term maintainability.
- Excellent written and spoken English and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with payments, fintech, or PCI DSS-regulated environments.
- Experience migrating legacy Android codebases (Views → Compose, Java → Kotlin, monolith → modular).
- Experience with mobile analytics, A/B testing, and customer engagement platforms (e.g. MoEngage, Firebase, Statsig).
- Experience with Play Store release management, staged rollouts, and remote config.
Ding is committed to creating equal employment opportunities in the workplace. We know that experience looks different for everyone – if you believe your proven experience would suit this role and is what we are looking for we encourage you to apply.
YOU WILL LOVE WORKING AT DING IF
- You want your work to mean something. We move real money for real people — families sending support across borders, communities staying connected. You care about that.
- You thrive with ownership, not instruction. At Ding, you’ll shape the work, not just deliver it. We move fast and trust people to figure things out.
- You’re energised by complexity. We operate across 160+ countries, 600+ operator relationships and some of the most challenging last-mile infrastructure on the planet. That excites you.
- You want to work with people who are sharp, direct and genuinely collaborative. No politics, no silos — just a team that gets things done and backs each other.
- You’re comfortable with ambiguity and know how to make progress anyway. We’re still building the playbook in many areas, and you’re the kind of person who writes it rather than waits for it.
